|1||Apr 19, 2013 7:26 AM||most students learn better from their peers so maybe getting more students qualified to do more tutoring sessions|
|2||Apr 17, 2013 3:04 PM||More time for student learning with instructors.|
|3||Apr 17, 2013 1:04 PM||Yes and no, it depends on the individual student.|
|4||Apr 16, 2013 8:11 PM||More links and online resources to help facilitate learning/teaching. (ie. websites that explain specific concepts in certain subjects)|
|5||Apr 16, 2013 2:54 PM||Increase student interest in the material, make harder evaluations of the professors.|
|6||Apr 16, 2013 12:19 PM||I feel SI sessions for more courses would be beneficial.|
|7||Apr 16, 2013 11:54 AM||In order to improve student learning on LSUA campus, LSUA needs to have a more "student" friendly campus. It seems that the majority of the staff on campus focuses mainly on their daily task rather than students which should be the #1 priority. The bookstore should have more open hours and have a better supply of books (both new and used), there is many times that they will sell completely out of books before the semester even starts taking weeks to get a replenishment supply.|
|8||Apr 16, 2013 11:17 AM||Teach students the importance and benefits of a round education, that way they can feel better about taking uper-level courses not relevant to their majors.|
|9||Apr 16, 2013 5:06 AM||Better teachers and curriculum.|
|10||Apr 16, 2013 5:05 AM||Offer more courses and times for the current courses offer.|
|11||Apr 15, 2013 11:41 PM||I have no idea. I have just recently registered for classes.|
|12||Apr 15, 2013 9:35 PM||I think LSUA should talk more with students one on one about what they experiance in the classrooms with the teachers and see how they learn. Both positively and negatively. I think a lot of times students input is not truely heard and a class can thought to be great just because the professor has been there forever or has a higher degree but yet every student may fail or have bad experiances. I think if LSUA made more of an effort to get students involved in discussion groups and maybe even more surveys like this they would be more willing to talk. I on the other hand have no shame and will speak what i feel up front about all of my experiances because i hope it can help someone else.|
|13||Apr 15, 2013 6:04 PM||more programs could offer peer led tutoring sessions. could possibly extend library hours|
|14||Apr 15, 2013 6:00 PM||Some of the teachers need to be more supportive in students and their learning, idk really other than that. College is basically on your own responsibility and we have computer labs and library for convenience.|
|15||Apr 15, 2013 5:13 PM||Get a better accounting teacher. Fire Elder|
|16||Apr 15, 2013 3:54 PM||offer more online classes|
|17||Apr 15, 2013 2:53 PM||I can't think of any thing that especially needs to be improved.|
|18||Apr 15, 2013 2:37 PM||Most professors I have had the pleasure of working along with are excellent in their techniques on presenting the information.|
|19||Apr 15, 2013 1:09 PM||Of course I wish we had more money because it is hard to keep or attract quality teachers when there hasn't been a raise in five years.|
|20||Apr 15, 2013 11:48 AM||Students should be prompted to use the facilities and resources on campus.|
|21||Apr 14, 2013 8:46 AM||For online classes, I think there could be certain days/times that should be used to have video chat with the online professor that is teaching the course. This would make it a little easier than by way of email, especially for a math class where you cannot type out a problem because you don't have the characters required for the equation. Also, offering lab more frequently so that it is convenient for everyone. Some students also work while they attend school so it makes it hard for the working students to participate in lab if they are only offered on the days that the working student is not and cannot be at school.|
|22||Apr 10, 2013 9:09 PM||It needs a better student-faculty interaction especially with other vital areas of administration such as financial aid, and student activities.|
|23||Apr 8, 2013 11:27 AM||Making use of all the classrooms available on campus. LSUA also needs to explain to the main campus that cutting the budget and taking money away from LSUA, LSUS, and LSUE only weakens the LSU system. LSUA does not have the ability to pay its professors top dollar for their service to the school, so professors will seek other employment. This means less degree programs and classes per semester for students. When professors leave, so will students.|
|24||Apr 3, 2013 8:49 PM||Educational seminars and workshops for students and faculty.
I find that higher level courses are really much easier and do not prepare me as well as the freshman courses I have taken.
Extra lab times available in nursing department with up to date equipment and technology.|
|25||Mar 27, 2013 4:35 PM||There needs to be more night classes to accommodate the older students who have to work. I have taken online courses, but I prefer the class interaction. I work full time and don't get off until 5:15. There is nothing I can take at night for the summer or fall semester. I am having to check into the LCRP to see what classes they are offering.|
|26||Mar 27, 2013 4:16 PM||More teacher student interaction. Helps the students not feel so alone when faced with big questions.|
|27||Mar 27, 2013 1:30 PM||I believe there should a few orientation classes offered at LSUA offered to help freshmen get used to the campus and utilizing all of their resources. I believe that such curses would lead to a much more successful path for the students of LSUA. In this course students will be introduced to what college is really like and how it is one step away from being submerged in society. This class would also serve as a much easier transition from high school to college which we know to be a rather sizable change in not just environment but expectations and cognition to be able to handle college and all of its challenges.|
|28||Mar 26, 2013 3:06 PM||Expand courses in information technology. Could also offer testing services for industry standard tests such as CompTIA and Microsoft.|
|29||Mar 26, 2013 8:53 AM||Encourage field trips...|
|30||Mar 26, 2013 7:20 AM||I'm not sure do to the fact that I am a new student.|
|31||Mar 26, 2013 7:00 AM||More teachers!|
|32||Mar 26, 2013 6:09 AM||More time spent with students; such as, tutoring, so that the student understands the material. Appointments should be available because walk-ins are not working, professors are rarely in office at their appropriate times on syllabus. 'Some' Professors should take more interest in making sure that their students are achieving their goals, and the student is having problems; offer the student various ways of achieving their goals instead of not caring...|
|33||Mar 25, 2013 10:13 PM||organize more tutoring and have more t.a.'s to help|
|34||Mar 25, 2013 6:25 PM||1. Some of the instructors need to get away from "Death by PowerPoint" and start teaching the material that they are going to test on. Otherwise they should only coordinate on-line classes. If we enroll in traditional classes, that is what we should receive.
2. Instructors should only require students to purchase books or material that they will be teaching from.|
|35||Mar 25, 2013 2:22 PM||Broaden the scope of classes offered, specifically the upper-level courses. The current courses are too few and far between.|
|36||Mar 25, 2013 12:47 PM||LSUA needs more hands on learning.|
|37||Mar 25, 2013 9:16 AM||More student - teacher time.
Better lectures to prepare students for test.
More assignments for points rather than just exams|
|38||Mar 25, 2013 9:02 AM||offer more online classes|
|39||Mar 25, 2013 8:55 AM||I am a history major and I wish there was a wider range of history classes offered at LSUA. I understand that there are only a few history professors so adding more history classes would probably involve adding another history teacher. I was also planning on minoring in writing and just recently realized that this will be impossible as there are not enough writing classes offered to complete the minor. We recently voted to give more money to the sports program. I voted yes to this because I know many people will enjoy this. But, I would also like to see more books added to the library and if we had to pay a little more each semester to make this happen I would definitely be OK with it.|
|40||Mar 25, 2013 8:54 AM||I believe that LSUA needs to look deeper into the professor evaluations that are given out at the end of each semester, and also stop making it a requirement to work in groups for every professor's classes. Working in groups is rarely beneficial, and should not be required in college.|
|41||Mar 25, 2013 8:30 AM||LSUA needs to have more online classes and change some of the times that classes are set for. Just about all business classes are at night are evening none are in the mornings, which makes it hard for me with work and children. I'm having a harchd time finding classes to take because of the schedule times. I may have to change schools because I need certain classes and none are avaiable around my work schedule, theres just not enough choices.|
|42||Mar 25, 2013 8:27 AM||offer different instructors to teach a subject as well as tutors of both peers and faculty|
|43||Mar 25, 2013 7:58 AM||Add more computer labs|
|44||Mar 25, 2013 7:55 AM||Course availability|
|45||Mar 25, 2013 7:52 AM||Continue and expand peer tutoring.|
|46||Mar 25, 2013 7:47 AM||Hear more from the students. Many students probably have a good opinion that would help with there learning.|
|47||Mar 25, 2013 7:43 AM||Offer classes more frequently, I believe it's stupid and completely ridiculous that it has taken me this long to graduate because only certain classes are offered at certain times, more summer classes would be great.|
|48||Mar 25, 2013 7:38 AM||One thing that could improve student learning is to up-date the librairy. I am a education major and for our classes we read a lot of children's books. Just recently I went to our librairy here on campus and the books are out of date, not that big of a selction, and the people that work in the library do not seem to happy to be there or want to help. Even the books that are not for education majors are out of date and not appealing.
Another thing that would help student's learning is having stafe on campus that actually care about the student's. There are several teachers and professors that are so rude that students do everything posable to avoid taking one of there classes. There also professors that are just negative to their students. For example just last week I was told to not even look at my classes for next semestar because I would never pass my Praxis. Like I said I am an Education major and part of being a Education major is that you have to pass all three parts of your Praxis one before you can go to Block 2. Well I have passed two of them and still need to pass the Writing part of the Praxis. Well when I was called into one of my teacers office she sat me down to tell me that I should not look at my next set of classes to take. She felt as if I would never pass my Writing Praxis. After that meeting with her I had no faith in my self. It's teachers like this that give student's a reason to give up and not want to go to school anymore. However I have decided to work my hardest to pass the test just to prove the teacher wrong.
The point of me telling you about that teacher is to show that they teachers here on campus just have no faith in students and are just here for a paycheck. Teachers at LSUA are just not suportive of student's.|
|49||Mar 25, 2013 7:37 AM||LSUA needs more professors to teach subjects like history, foreign language, political science, ect. The lack of professors in these areas makes it difficult for students to arrange their schedules and sometimes even prevents students from taking all the classes that they desire in the field. Also, LSUA desperately needs to update the library so that it is modern and conducive to student learning.|
|50||Mar 25, 2013 7:33 AM||LSUA needs better parking so that students can arrive to class on time.|
|51||Mar 25, 2013 7:24 AM||Nothing, they do a great job on interacting with the students and making sure we are on top.|
|52||Mar 25, 2013 7:14 AM||Offer more tutor times|
|53||Mar 25, 2013 7:00 AM||See number 9 answer.|
|54||Mar 25, 2013 6:58 AM||I think LSUA needs more organizatins!|
|55||Mar 23, 2013 10:36 PM||spend more founds in academics and the criminal justice and political science programs.|
|56||Mar 23, 2013 10:08 PM||I am a returning student and all classes are online. I think there should be some streamlining done for online classes as I feel that some of the work/projects are just busy work. I know some of my classmates feel the same way we would just like to have the material presented to us so that we can absorb as much information as possible.|
|57||Mar 23, 2013 1:27 PM||LSUA could use improving|
|58||Mar 23, 2013 11:48 AM||I think there should be more opportunities for students to get together and connect. When I first started at A in 2011 the students were more friendly and student interaction was more implemented., now I almost feel like there are no opportunies for student are interaction encouraged.|
|59||Mar 22, 2013 3:07 PM||take student survey comments seriously. We are required to take these surveys at the end of each class but rarely have I noticed any action taken regarding the comments. I say this knowing that I along with several other students had similar suggestions and issues notated on a particular survey and we all felt that we were ignored.|
|60||Mar 22, 2013 11:13 AM||There needs to be more classes and a wider variety. There also needs to be more opportunities to do different things in LSUA.|
|61||Mar 22, 2013 9:42 AM||LSUA currently does an outstanding job, in my opinion, when it comes to student learning.|
|62||Mar 22, 2013 8:07 AM||All programs should utilize activities that promote learning the material (quizes, assignments, projects) and not just rely on tests. If students are presented with more opportunites to see material in different formats, they might have a better chance at retaining it.|
|63||Mar 22, 2013 7:14 AM||Try and have more opportuities where the students can come together and actually talk about their experiences so far with the curriculum they are learning about in their classes.|
|64||Mar 22, 2013 4:23 AM||Evaluate teachers more during class and take notes, making some suggestions for new ideas to present to the class.|
|65||Mar 21, 2013 8:35 PM||Redesign the degree programs so that students are expose to more educational fields.|
|66||Mar 21, 2013 7:44 PM||Offer more opportunities for students to take night classes. There are many students that can only take night classes. Many students are unable to come to turtoring during the day, why isn't turtoring available at night. The library closes to early, its should stay open to at least 9:00 p.m Monday thru Friday and open from 9:00 am to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Many students that attended college at LSUA, are not traditional students. These students have families, jobs, and other responsibilities, that limit there ability to attend many school functions and meetings. Take these students into consideration when having guest speakers, or other important functions for the students on campus.|
|67||Mar 21, 2013 7:19 PM||Availabilty to the library 24 hours a day|
|68||Mar 21, 2013 6:22 PM||I think that our university needs to offer more majors. Examples of these would include: agriculture, environmental studies/science, food and nutrition, horticulture, specialized education programs, sociology, cultural studies, resource management and urban planning, computer science, public relations, and foreign languages.|
|69||Mar 21, 2013 5:21 PM||I think that their learning system is good.|
|70||Mar 21, 2013 4:17 PM||Hire better quality professors that take an honest interest in you as a student. The professors now are superficial and can care less if you learn or not. Another improvement would be to hire teachers/professors that speak fluent English. Professors at LSUA do not teach...they just lecture at you.|
|71||Mar 21, 2013 3:03 PM||I feel that there needs to be more on-line classes offered. I work and it is much easier for me to do on-line than to try and take a night class on campus. There also is not enough night classes offered. When I started my degree 4 yrs ago there was a larger offering of night classes that seems to have dwindled down especially in my field of study.|
|72||Mar 21, 2013 2:36 PM||Some of the instructors (that I've had and also other students have complained about) are either so strict or have the attitude that they aren't there for the student.
Being strict, for example, I am a non traditional student that is paying for my education, I'm not straight out of high school and going to college to make my parents happy; therefore, if I have to miss class (especially on test day etc.) I have a legitimate reason. Some instructors (definitely not all instructors) have zero tolerance or compassion for that!!! I understand that there are also students that have excessive absences too!
When an instructor is not understanding of a student's personal life (children, elderly parents, etc) it causes the students to have a "not give a crap" attitude about that class or the feeling that there is no point in trying if they missed a class/test that was beyond their control!
Maybe if LSUA had a committee (consisting of instructors & students) or something like that so when these types of situations come up, the student and the instructor could be heard and an unbiased committee make the decision whether the student could make up the work or not.
I have had to many friends at LSUA that have completely given up on their education over issues like this! One that came up this semester after their grandparent passed away, I had to beg this student to stick it out although some instructors had no sympathy for their situation.|
|73||Mar 21, 2013 2:23 PM||advising transfer students; more workers in financial aid office and more workers answering phone calls; more efficient scheduling system|
|74||Mar 21, 2013 2:01 PM||Hold all professors accountable for the quality of their instruction. All instruction should align with research-based andragogical models.|
|75||Mar 21, 2013 1:16 PM||1. More online courses to better accommodate non-traditional students' work schedules.
2. More focus on academic learning; rather than athletics, campus beautification, extracurricular activities, etc|
|76||Mar 21, 2013 12:44 PM||One area that needs to be looked at is the attitude of the facility - some have the attitude that we are superior - intimidation is not the way to get students to learn or even respect you as a facility member - therefore, your reputation as a professor is spread over campus negativiity|
|77||Mar 21, 2013 12:43 PM||More sections of the same classes should be offered. All of the education class should be offered each semester to ensure quicker graduation rates.|
|78||Mar 21, 2013 12:41 PM||Firstly, offer more classes and make them more flexible. Many of the classes in the catalog have not been offered since I transferred here. More importantly, many of the classes that I am interested in and would apply towards my major are only offered at night. I have a 3 year old who attends LSUA's daycare... I have no one who could watch her while I attend night classes, and I would not be able to focus properly if she came to class with me every day. These classes need to be available during the day as well. If some classes will continue to be offered mainly after 5pm, then the school's daycare should be open to those students' children until the end of class.
Secondly, make it easier for students to access the internet to study or do homework in between classes. The wifi has gone down a couple of times since I've been here. I transferred from ULL, and I don't remember the wifi going down ONCE during the years that I attended. Also, as far as I know, there are only two outdoor power outlets that work: one of the outlets on the patio area of the student center, and the one in the quad. There are several outlets in other places where a student could sit outside while they study, but none of them work.
Thirdly, investigate when necessary. If there is a certain class that the majority of people fail, or a certain professor who a lot of people have a problem with, investigate it. See what the problem is, and do what is necessary to fix it.|
|79||Mar 21, 2013 11:52 AM||LSUA needs to focus on creating more degree programs in the Humanities Department such as Graphic Design, Journalism, Music, Web Design, etc. as well as other divisions. Here are some examples:
-A division of Christian Studies would be an excellent program and would create competition with the already disheveled Department of Christian Studies at LC, provided that the department meets the requirements of theological standards, but still offer a diverse cast of professors whether Calvinist or Armenian.
-A stronger Division of Education.
-Remove online Nursing classes. No one will truly know how to perform first aid or CPR on someone if they are not in a lab setting.
-A more diverse group of History and political science professors.
-Better professors for the Psychology Department. I had to drop Death, Dying, and Bereavement because the professor could not manage the class.
I believe LSUA is improving in many areas already and hope to see these improvements mentioned take place.|
|80||Mar 21, 2013 11:41 AM||n/a|
|81||Mar 21, 2013 11:38 AM||Make the campus experience more than just coming to class and going home. Students should feel tgat they're part of a community.
Improve relationships between faculty and students.|
|82||Mar 21, 2013 11:30 AM||LSUA could accommodate more non-traditional students by adding more classes in the evening.|
|83||Mar 21, 2013 11:26 AM||Introduce students and especially students who are attending college for the first time and have been out of school for several years how to prepare for online classes. Since online classes are going to become so prevalent. I think LSU-A should make every effort to retain class instructors in the classroom.|
|84||Mar 21, 2013 11:20 AM||I believe that LSUA should not only offer teacher evaluations at the end of the year, but also at midterm. By offering evaluations at midterm the students will be able voice their concerns without fear of reprimandations.|
|85||Mar 21, 2013 10:44 AM||I think LSUA needs to ADD more hands-on learning to improve the student learning.. Less Lecturing,|
|86||Mar 21, 2013 10:43 AM||I think we need to stop spending so much of our money on recruiting and going all over the place to "get more students" and focus the money here, on the current students. I have seen the recruiter schedules and where they go. Money is being spent on plane tickets and hotel rooms all over the country for what? Kids in California to come to Alexandria, Louisiana?! That is just crazy!!! Students who are here are struggling to graduate because our resources and fundings are going elsewhere. I have had to change my major three times because the classes and resources stopped being available or there became a lack of resources to keep it going. I also think we keep an extremely poor watch over our arts programs here. Some students want to stay close to home and still pursue their creative talents but LSUA neglects them. Why did we spend thousands on a darkroom that cannot be used? Why not let the students who want to learn get to learn it? We are a small school, so we may not have enough people to make a class, but we are also throwing away money by not using the equipment that was bought and put here. So let those students learn, have a 3 person class.|
|87||Mar 21, 2013 10:41 AM||I think they need to put more emphasis on learning and less on student life and sports.|
|88||Mar 21, 2013 10:31 AM||I think LSUA is doing a great job educating students|
|89||Mar 21, 2013 10:18 AM||LSUA needs to make teachers available for more one on one appointments with students|
|90||Mar 21, 2013 9:34 AM||My most relevant problem that I have had with my learning here at LSUA, is the limited professors/teachers for the mass communication degree. I am having trouble in making my schedules, because the classes that are required aren't flexible in the times they are available. I am told that the main reason for this (as I have already stated) is the few professors able to teach it that are employed here. (I am told there is only four.)
My opinion would be that there be more professors hired (especially those that are able to teach for the mass communication degree).|
|91||Mar 21, 2013 9:21 AM||Better wifi hotspots...signal is very weak in certain areas. A 24 hour computer lab would be very benficial to each student. There are times when your home pc may be down or you need a quiet place to do some work but there is no such place on campus.|
|92||Mar 21, 2013 9:14 AM||More courses, more funding, more teachers and give teachers a pay raise!|
|93||Mar 21, 2013 9:06 AM||LSUA needs to have more hands on experience pertaining to students career choice earlier in the program.|
|94||Mar 21, 2013 8:59 AM||Be more helpful with assisting students.|
|95||Mar 21, 2013 8:45 AM||The electronics (computers, smart boards, etc.) need to be fixed so they always work properly. And teachers should have a more strict teaching rubric to follow.|
|96||Mar 21, 2013 8:23 AM||Provide more help for Students that are not prepared for College while they are in High School. Some l students from local schools are very unprepared when starting college. I had very poor math skills and poor math background. I was only comfortable with learning math from and instructor who was able to teach math in a way that I was able to learn. He taught Algebra and related life to examples. The examples of cows and horses helped ease the block of trying to understand negative and positive. I find it hard to make a good grade when I am stressed about the lessons.|
|97||Mar 21, 2013 7:23 AM||Emphasize the value of one's post-secondary education and the importance of a degree's reputation/accreditation.|
|98||Mar 20, 2013 5:49 PM||I can not say at this time for i am not sure.|
|99||Mar 19, 2013 5:44 PM||I think that the opportunities offered are quite good. I would encourage more communication VIA email in areas of advising etc vs. having a sit down session for students that have to work full-time and/or care for children. I do value face to face time, but in some instances it is not feasible.|
|100||Mar 19, 2013 11:01 AM||The professors need to be more will to work one on one with their student when it is required. Many of the professors require yo to sink or swin on your own.|
|101||Mar 18, 2013 9:17 PM||The students should have a voice and their concerns should actually be addressed and not blown off.|
|102||Mar 18, 2013 7:43 PM||Get fully english speaking teachers.|
|103||Mar 18, 2013 1:20 PM||Listen to student feedback! Instead of forming a bunch of committees that are not in touch with students AT ALL, listen to what they have to say. Believe it or not, students have some pretty great ideas!|
|104||Mar 18, 2013 1:11 PM||a few amount of teachers do not seem to care about the class and this makes it difficult to communicate when you're having problems in the class.|
|105||Mar 18, 2013 12:36 PM||Have more hours for tutoring.|
|106||Mar 18, 2013 12:28 PM||Better help in and out of the classroom.|
|107||Mar 18, 2013 11:26 AM||LSUA needs more tutorial sessions to help students who are struggling in math and science!|
|108||Mar 18, 2013 9:16 AM||Have more one on one time with the professor, instead of a tutor, or SI.|
|109||Mar 17, 2013 8:07 PM||I think that there should be tutoring hours extended into the evenings for students who have to work a job during the day. I think that online tutoring or paper evaluation would be a great resource. Also all documents that are available at the online library should be available to students, because some students may work so much that they cannot make it to the library during office hours or have time to contact the librarian online to request such information be unrestricted.|
|110||Mar 16, 2013 9:51 AM||First and foremost, the University must bolster the Bolton Library's budget so that they can increase their operational hours; given that LSUA began as and fore the most part still is a commuter campus, the library's shortened hours (0800-1800 Monday through Thursday and 0800-1630) do not afford access to those who have night classes only or for those who work and take classes during the day. LSUA also needs to direct more monetary and institutional support to the departments and the faculty. Broaden the course offerings within the various curricula. Develop interdepartmental courses that meet the needs of many and that expose students to a multifaceted learning environment.|
|111||Mar 15, 2013 7:35 AM||I think they should move the teachers around and teach other courses that they are qualified in.|
