About US

Welcome to the website of LSUA's Department of Mathematics and Physical Sciences. Thank you for taking time to explore who we are and what we have to offer.

The second largest department on campus, Mathematics and Physical Sciences brings a wide range of cultural and academic diversity to the university. Our faculty are highly- qualified teachers who have earned their academic credentials at universities both across the United States and abroad. Their range of expertise is also broad and includes doctorate-level training in chemistry, geology, mathematics, physics, and statistics.

The department's mission is student-centered; although many faculty pursue research interests of their own, their primary focus is providing high-quality, undergraduate-level education to the students enrolled in the department's programs. As part of their teaching responsibilities, many of the faculty involve themselves with student research projects, projects that include field experiences, conference presentations, and student publications.

Although the department's programs are growing, class sizes have been kept small so that the quality of instruction can be maintained and students can continue to have substantial interaction with their teachers. In their role as student advisors, department faculty also provide students with guidance about curricular requirements and post-graduate career decisions.

Whether you are interested in working on a chemistry project in the field or in the lab, investigating problems and proofs as mathematical research, or working in the field on a geological expedition, the Department of Mathematics and Physical Sciences offers the kind of quality undergraduate experience that can serve as the foundation for both further study and future careers.
